August challenge and flowers

Here is the inspiration picture for August

Look at all those wonderful window boxes!
This house makes me think of Switzerland or perhaps parts of England.

Here's some work from our DT

                                                                  

LIBBY

I was inspired by the colors (blue, cream, pink & green) as well as the stone/brick walls and flowers.  I used all these colors on my page titled, "Bloom."  To the left of the photos I used large scrallops cut from 'stones' pp as well as a strip of 'bricks' pp.  There is also bricks in my bottom photo along my flowers edge.  The background papers were misted.  An ivy border punch was used along the right and various flowers & leaves added, pulling in colors from the inspiration photo.  The gems are home made.  Sketch is Page Maps (Nov 2009).

I loved this inspiration, the brick cottage & flowers, so I choose some KC brick pp forming part of my base along with a lovely collection of various flowers as my cluster.

I couldn’t go past highlighting one of the lovely quaint English houses complete with cottage garden we saw everywhere on our trip around Britain.  I’ve used Sassafras papers and one of my last foldies (I was so sad to see this company fold).

I started with a paper with pink horizontal lines to represent the building's bricks. I have a lot of pink accents from the window frames. I stamped 3 rows of pink flowers for the window boxes. Plus there are pink flowers at the base of building so I made my flowers pink. I thought the roof and drainpipe looked a grey/blue colour to me so I've used teal mist and blues in my flowers.  I put a pink ribbon vertically up the right side to represent the drainpipe. I also looks a bit like bricks.

I have used a picture of blossoms in BW and I have hand coloured two of the blossoms in a pink. I have kept this very simple I think it brings out the colours more with the pink background and the flowers that sit in the corner

July challenge is a bit pointy!

Well, here is something completely different.

This spiral building is in Cambodia .

 

Our inspiration for this month will test you.Some suggested spirals or pointy things, someone else said an ice cream cone .Our added criteria this month is to use a PIN.

Perhaps you could add a bead or two to an ordinary pin to add some colour.

Now here's some inspiration from our Design Team.

 

                                                                    LIBBY

I was inspired by the lines from the steps in the inspiration photo and incorporated lined pp to the left of my photo.  Also, the cream colors (I used flowers & trim), the greens (leaves were added), and grey/silver (in which I added silver spiral paper clips and two stick pins). The criteria of spirals and/or hat pins were included amongst my flower cluster.  Home made gems were added as the flower centers and along the left of the photo.  Flowers are Prima, papers are My Mind's Eye and trim is from Webster's Pages.  The sketch is Page Maps (July 2008).

When I looked at the building I thought of quilling. I have added two small hearts with just a touch of quilling. I also added a big black sticker swirl to represent the swirl in the building as well. The black and white fabric flower is also made by twirling it around until it has a flower shape.

I have used angled tree branch chipboard, a hat pin & diamond shaped bling, from inspiration of the spiral building.

When I first saw the inspiration picture for this month it reminded me of an upside down thumbtack but my son told me he thought it was like a needle which made me then think of Cleopatra’s Needle in London, so this is what I have gone with.  I figure I will eventually get all my travel photos completed!!  I’ve used the colours in the photographs to determine my paper choices and added buttons and a pin.

This is Danielle, my niece who looks as sweet as anything but can have a very sharp tongue and attitude!!! I have used a hat pin in the roses in case you cant see it and using the word sharp in the title I feel meets the criteria!

Here is our stimulus picture for JUNE

These are nylon air houses from Life  Magazine.

Think jellyfish, Parachutes, seashells, hot air balloons. Whatever inspires you. If you want to use these colours that is fine too but not essential.

 

The added criteria is Silhouettes.
Layouts or cards not containing the set criteria will not be considered for judging.

Now here's what the girls have come up with
                                                                JANE

This is the dome in St Peter’s Basilica in the Vatican City, Rome. 

I have used black cardstock as the base and kept the two photos to the middle of the page with strips of a mixture of paper behind them to try to give the feeling of height which is such a feature of the real dome.  I’ve added gold rubons which are carefully positioned to carry your eye up the page to focus on the dome - the minimal embellishments all have touches of gold to highlight the richness of the Basilica.  I finished the layout off with a quote by John Muir - “The power of imagination makes us infinite”, which I felt was fitting for this amazing structure.

I drew inspiration from the shapes and colours of the picture. You can see this from the shapes of the background paper. I have the silhouette required with my chipboard piece. I've kept the layout simple in line with the topic - reflection.

I used all the colours from the inspiration photo and sea life silhouettes to create my layout titled, "Sea Life."  A circle was created using cheesecloth which was misted with several mists and various sea creatures were then added.  Then I had fun with embellies and added sequins, wood beads, gold metal circles, sea shells, gems and pearls.  The background papers were distressed and misted.  The wood title letters were also misted and a gold metal embellie and an anchor sequin were added on the letter "A."  I also added three gems in the upper right and ribbon was tucked to the right of the photo.

I used the colours of the circular shapes & inked my white CS & a Craftworks mask, & then used this near-silhouette photo of Pete on Norfolk Island as the subject.

 This is my nephew Zach, he is a bit of a cheeky bugger, lol.There are a bits and pieces of the colours in there somewhere but the main element I have chosen is the silhouette.

May challenge with autumn leaves

Here is the inspiration for May.

Look at those gorgeous autumn leaves through that archway.
We would like you to create a layout about Autumn this month with the added criteria of LEAVES.

Here is what our DT have come up with.

I've tried to base my layout on the look of the inspiration pic. I have picked up the mustard, pink, brown and blue colours from the picture. I saw the inside of the lamp and the ground in the foreground as blue. The pink is toward the top and the mustard fills up a lot of the bottom. I have also added a strip up the left hand side to replicate the left hand side wall in the pic. Also my photos include some really interesting architecture at a theme park and as the challenge is architecturally inspired I thought it suited.

I loved these colours , so choose this photo of Pete & I, & Jade near Windsor Castle in 2005.

Misted the Kraft, added some hessian, chipping lamp & fence plus lots of flowers.

This is a photo of our animals... our cats Tom & Geri and our dog, Zoe.  They were quite focused on the food!
The criteria was to use Autumn colors and leaves, which I accomplished.

I used lots of mists on the tag and let the string fall naturally before adhering it in place.  The upper right corner was folded down with a brad holding it in place.  Cheesecloth was misted and added under all the flowers.  The rosettes were all hand made and various flowers were also added.  The leaves were cut from two different papers using a Sizzix die and the ends were tucked under the flowers.  The gems and glitter gems are my newest creation... all hand made and so fun!  Baker's twine (home made) was wrapped around a cardstock "chicken leg" and dangling down from a flower exactly where the animals are looking.  Clear glitter title letters finish off my page.

I wanted to focus on the colours in this inspiration piece – the brown tones with gold highlights and touches of red with a tiny highlight here and there of the palest blue.  I also wanted to capture the feeling of isolation held within this picture – a sense of being apart from the rest of the world, hidden and alone.

I love autumn! But I thought I would try to use similar colours just not as bright.
 I found paper that was dulled down a bit, still works I think.
