May challenge with autumn leaves

Here is the inspiration for May.

Look at those gorgeous autumn leaves through that archway.
We would like you to create a layout about Autumn this month with the added criteria of LEAVES.
Maybe your photo has leaves in it or your embellishments have leaves.

I've tried to base my layout on the look of the inspiration pic. I have picked up the mustard, pink, brown and blue colours from the picture. I saw the inside of the lamp and the ground in the foreground as blue. The pink is toward the top and the mustard fills up a lot of the bottom. I have also added a strip up the left hand side to replicate the left hand side wall in the pic. Also my photos include some really interesting architecture at a theme park and as the challenge is architecturally inspired I thought it suited.

I loved these colours , so choose this photo of Pete & I, & Jade near Windsor Castle in 2005.

Misted the Kraft, added some hessian, chipping lamp & fence plus lots of flowers.

This is a photo of our animals... our cats Tom & Geri and our dog, Zoe.  They were quite focused on the food!
The criteria was to use Autumn colors and leaves, which I accomplished.

I used lots of mists on the tag and let the string fall naturally before adhering it in place.  The upper right corner was folded down with a brad holding it in place.  Cheesecloth was misted and added under all the flowers.  The rosettes were all hand made and various flowers were also added.  The leaves were cut from two different papers using a Sizzix die and the ends were tucked under the flowers.  The gems and glitter gems are my newest creation... all hand made and so fun!  Baker's twine (home made) was wrapped around a cardstock "chicken leg" and dangling down from a flower exactly where the animals are looking.  Clear glitter title letters finish off my page.

I wanted to focus on the colours in this inspiration piece – the brown tones with gold highlights and touches of red with a tiny highlight here and there of the palest blue.  I also wanted to capture the feeling of isolation held within this picture – a sense of being apart from the rest of the world, hidden and alone.

I love autumn! But I thought I would try to use similar colours just not as bright.
 I found paper that was dulled down a bit, still works I think.

This inspiration building certainly had a sinister air about it. I ran with that theme and thought, what can be more foreboding than black ravens at the Tower of London where so many cruel and heartless acts were carried out in centuries past in the name of the English throne?  Legend has it that should the ravens ever leave the tower then the kingdom will fall.   I used a brick template to ink the background of my page in several colours based on the foundation piece of notebook paper I used, then inked over the top with a number stencil.  Several pieces from an old transparency sheet fitted my theme perfectly.  I added in some inked chipboard and a few other finishing touches and voila!

I've gone with the Halloween theme for my inspiration with this layout that I'm calling Spooktacular. I've used the typical Halloween colours and embellishments and had a lot of fun making it. Most products are by My Mind's Eye and Creative Memories.

Papers are DCWV and were misted with a Pearl Color mist and Perfect Pearls Biscotti.  I twisted rope around the photo and knotted it at each corner.  Wide black ribbon was scrunched up and stapled over a portion of the photo and across the page.  Black flowers with small white pearls were added on the ribbon and was misted.  I used the Sizzix fence die to cut the corrugated cardboard fence and stained, misted and distressed them to look old and worn.  The glitter title letters were added happazardly onto the ribbon and flowers.  A strip of black furry ribbon was added on the upper portion of my layout (hiding where the two pages come together).  The chipboard element is the moon to the left of my page, below the ribbon.  I peeled off the top layer of the chipboard circle and added black metallic paint mixed with glitter paint and using a paper towel, dabbed it onto the circle, then finished it off by misting it with gold color mist.

 I used the black and white theme for the layout and used a splash of devil red. The Chandelier is my chipboard and that comes from Scrapware.

I was inspired by my friends birthday party costume for his own birthday on Halloween! I love hallowen so I was excited when these came up!!

March Challenge # 9

Here is the photo for March's challenge

 

Some say it is a hobbit house, some think fairytales.  Our theme this month is ... 

                                                     FAIRYTALES
There are many to choose from and it doesn't matter how obscure.  If your background is from another country perhaps you have a folk tale you'd like to document for future generations.

Most fairytales have been handed down by oral history and as such you sometimes find different endings.

Have your children dressed up for Book Week parades as a fairytale character?  That could be another idea.  if you look at what the team has done you will get some great ideas.  We would love to see what you can do.  Link your projects to your blog so we know how clever you are!!

I was inspired by the greens and browns/grays.  On my background paper, I did a lot of painting with gesso and paints, adding mists and glitter glue.  I added a couple of clouds using a stencil (I started with mixing gesso and paint ... then added some extreme paint with flecks of colors in it.  The "trees" were also added with a stencil .. then I ended up doing some painting free-hand.  The bottom portion is a mix of brown, gray and black paint with glitter and mists added on top of that.

I choose to use a photo taken when I was 5, up at SantaLand at Currumbin. The photo is taken in a little windmill that reminded me of the sweet little house in the inspiration. I had a wonderful day with my friend! Her dad took a number of black & white photos of this day.

When I first saw the March inspiration of a lopsided little cottage  I immediately thought of the long closed Fantasy Glades at Port Macquarie where we took my daughter when she was small.  She loved all the little people sized buildings and was fascinated with the Crocked House which slated this way and that with wonky chairs and odd shaped windows and everything on strange angles.  I’ve used an older JBS story patterned paper to enhance the fairy-tale aspect of this layout and rather than have a separate title I’ve chosen to use a photo of one of the park signs which explains how Fantasy Glades came into being.  I believe the derelict park has recently been sold and there are plans afoot to reopen this magical children’s theme park.

Challenge #8 Bling and a headshot

Welcome to our challenge for February.Because it is a short month I'm starting you off as soon as I can.Entries for this challenge #8 close midnight on February 28th.

Czech artist David Černý's North Carolina piece 'Metalmorphosis.'

Maybe it is because it is a giant, mirrored head which rotates, spits water, deconstructs and reconstructs before our eyes. Or perhaps it is the fact that the whole thing is filmed on webcam so you can keep tabs on it at all times. But it's most likely because 'Metalmorphosis' makes our world look the way we secretly hoped it would when we saw 'Terminator' for the first time.

The mammoth undertaking weighs 14 tons, and the "seven-metre tall structure with horizontally-moving stainless-steel plates... form, and re-form, a giant metal head." Since 2007, it has been on display at the Whitehall Technology Park in Charlotte, North Carolina.here's a link to a video where you can watch it move.
